“You end up going home with so much more than what you’ve given. There are people here that come every week, and they look to us to feed their families. It’s not just food. Coming together like this and knowing they can count on us to be here is one of the most important things I’ve ever done in my life.”

Helpful Tips for Our Volunteers
We believe getting food should be a simple and dignified process.
Luke 3:11 Share Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We work with the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB), local grocery stores, and other organizations and individuals to receive food donations we then distribute to our Guests.
People who access our pantry are our Guests.
We intentionally call the individuals we serve our “Guests.” We want every person who walks into our space to feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. Also, we don’t have location or income requirements, which allows us to serve individuals from many different situations of financial hardship.
All ages are welcome to volunteer at Luke 3:11 Share Center.
Our volunteer team includes young children through retirees!
While families are welcome to volunteer during any of our shifts, families with small children are encouraged to volunteer on Fridays.
Teens 16 and older are welcome to volunteer as a Guest Host (a volunteer who assists a guest through the food area). Children 7 and older are welcome to volunteer as Boxers (they are paired with a Guest Host and carry a box for the guest).
Moms with nursing babies/small babies are welcome to serve! We’ll do our best to find a role that fits your situation. We’ve had mommas wear their babies while volunteering, mommas who’ve had to sneak out for a few minutes to nurse their baby in the childcare area, and mommas who’ve had a kiddo stuck to their side while they helped Guests.
Families who need calmer environments may benefit from volunteering during one of our set-up times.
We follow food-safety guidelines.
In order to ensure the products we give out are safe for consumption, we adhere to rules laid out by the Northern Illinois Food Bank. We have team leads in place to train and guide volunteers on the correct policies and procedures. (Don’t hesitate to ask them questions!)
Dress comfortably and bring a water bottle.
We suggest you wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Be mindful that some volunteer jobs may require you to work outside for a bit, so dress appropriately. Feel free to bring a water bottle labeled with your name, but refrain from snacking in areas used to assist our guests.
Leave personal items in your locked car.
We have an area for volunteers to place coats and bags, but we suggest leaving everything else in your car.
You're welcome to contact us with questions!
Shoot us an email, and we’ll happily address any questions or concerns.
When people don’t have the resources to provide food for their family, they’re left feeling worried and embarrassed. At Luke 3:11 Share Center, we offer a simple, dignified process so people can provide nutritious food their family will enjoy.
